Are You Still Watching??

It comes at the moment of most shame. You have the day off. No one else is home and you have the WHOLE apartment/dorm/house/cupboardunderthestairs to yourself. What’s the shame in watching 4 hours of How I Met Your Mother re-runs? If a tree falls in the woods and no one’s around to hear it, did it really happen?

Well, guess what. Netflix knows.
Netflix knows all.
Now,at this point, you have two options.

You could shrug, say hell yes I’m still watching!, grab another handful of chips, another can of coke, and keep on watching your Friends re-runs. Hats off to you people and this is probably the most common response.

or Two!
And I have some suggestions!!

Here’s the difference between me and every other blogger on the internet. I’m not a hipster. I’m not writing the ‘things you’ve never seen on Netflix that you probably should be watching’ or ‘shows you’re NOT binging’ or ‘best movies you’ve never heard of’.

This is the: ‘shows and movies you may or may not have heard of. They’re awesome and you should watch them if you haven’t already and if you’ve already watched them, well, watch them again!’I’m not deep or media adventurous. I like what I like. Some of it is popular. Some of it’s not. And you’re about to hear it!

1. Don’t Trust the B- in Apartment 23

Notable Actors: Kristen Something (she played Jessica Jones), James Van Der Beek as James Van Der Beek, and that one guy from Man Seeking Woman.

If you like: How I Met Your Mother, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Adult Comedy Sitcoms

This has turned into one of my favorite television shows on Netflix! I got many friends addicted to it. Even though it only made it two seasons, it’s still worth a glance!

2. Skins (BBC)

Notable Actors (there are a lot): Kaya Scodelario from Maze Runner, Nicholas Hoult from X-Men: First Class, Warm Bodies, and more, Jack O’Connell from Unbroken, Hannah Murray and Joe Dempsie both from Game of Thrones, and Dev Patel from Slumdog Millionaire.

If You Like: Teenage Dramas, British Television

I’ve been watching this show and re-watching this show for as long as I can remember. Most, if not all, of these young actors went on to bigger and better things but I will always remember them from here! They address every issue any teenager could have possibly went through during adolescence. Even if you’re an adult now, I still believe you’d enjoy this show!

Warning: There is a LOT of sex, drugs, and alcohol. A looot.
Tip: There are seven seasons but three different sets of casts.
Seasons 1 and 2 are generation one.
Season 3 and 4 are generation two. Season 5 and 6 are generation three.
I would skip five and six.
Go straight to seven.

3. Freaks and Geeks

Notable Actors: Uhm. James Franco. Seth Rogen. Marshall from How I Met Your Mother (Jason something) and that one girl who is in everything! She plays Velma in Scooby Doo as well as Hawk-Eye’s wife in the Avengers sequel.

If You Like: Any of the actors listed above. And teen comedy dramas.

Unfortunately, it was a one-hit wonder and only made it one season. On the upside, no long-term commitment. You’ll be in and out of this show before you can say ‘I don’t give a damn about my reputation’. You’ll get that once you watch the show 😛

4. Battle Royale

Notable Actors: None that you’d know of, I don’t think.

If You Like: Hunger Games and teen thrillers

Warning: It is entirely in Japanese so you will need to read the subtitles.

It’s basically the original Hunger Games story but a lot more gory.

5. Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog

Notable Actors: Neil Patrick Harris, Felicia Day, and Nathan Fillion

If You Like: Goofy nerdy movies

This movie is only 45 minutes long so it’s basically an episode of a show and it’s the single most hilarious movie you will ever watch.

6. Tucker and Dale Versus Evil

Notable Actors: Alan Tudyk mainly

If You Like: Spoofs of Horror movies

When you’re just a simple hill billy renovating a cabin in the woods and a dumb group of teenagers think you’re serial killers trying to kill them. Summary of a hilarious time 😛

7. Jane the Virgin

Notable Actors: All are rather unknown in my opinion, except that one girl from Orange is the New Black, Diane Guerrero

If You Like: Telenovelas (even if you don’t because I’d never seen one)

A catholic girl, Jane, vows a life of chastity until marriage; however, life has other plans when she is accidentally artificially inseminated (oops) and now everyone is comparing her to the Virgin Mary XD

8. The Guild

Notable Actors: Felicia Day (in red) and Amy Akuda from How to Get Away With Murder (right)

If You Like: Nerdy shows and short episodes

Explores the life of six, unlikely comrades as they fight evil and solve problems together in their guild, the Knights of Good, and in real life.

9. iZombie

Notable Actors: David Anders (from Heroes and Once Upon a Time)

If You Like: Zombie and Crime shows

This hopefully is more popular but if you haven’t seen it, you need to right now! By far the greatest modern telling of the zombie affliction. A girl becomes a zombie and works in a morgue. Eating brains causes her to view flashbacks from murder victims helping a detective solve murders.

10. Galaxy Quest

Notable Actors: Alan Rickman, Tim Allen, and Sigourney Weaver

If You Like: Star Trek Spoofs or sci-fi movies in general!

This is by far my favorite movie of all time! I’ve been watching this since I was a small child and it just slays me every time I watch it. It’s a spoof of Star Trek actors, and particularly slams William Shatner and his ego. You just have to watch it.

Well there you have it! My top 10 favorite Netflix Gems (most of them anyway). If you haven’t seen them and checked them out thanks to this article, let me know what you thought! Or if you have any more to add! I’m always searching for those hidden gems.
